Job Responsibilities

Translate business goals into scalable ML ranking solutions powering personalized experiences across SmartNews surfaces.
Design, experiment with, and optimize ranking strategies to improve engagement, retention, and monetization.
Collaborate with Product, Business, and engineering teams to define success metrics and run data-driven experiments (A/B tests).
Iterate on models, features, and ranking logic using performance data and user feedback; deploy improvements to production.

Python with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and solid ML fundamentals (supervised learning, evaluation, feature engineering).
Data processing with SQL, Pandas, Spark; experience handling large-scale datasets.
Strong coding quality and ability to translate business questions into data-driven approaches.
Business-level Japanese proficiency; ability to collaborate with local Product/Business stakeholders.

Experience with recommender/ranking/search/ads/personalization; deep learning models (embeddings, sequence models).
Production ML workflows (feature pipelines, monitoring) and online serving.
Open-source contributions, Kaggle, or publications.

Direct impact on engagement, retention, and revenue via scalable ranking systems.
End-to-end ownership from product goals to production models with data-driven iteration.
Cross-functional collaboration and opportunities to work with global teams and deploy at scale.
